"Our Story"
God’s Hands of Praise, international gospel sign language professional choir, is home-based in Detroit, Michigan and consists of over 40 members, ranging in ages from 3 to 70. It emerged in 1994, the brainchild of Dr. Kim Logan-Nowlin, who longed to enhance self-esteem through American Sign Language (ASL) and was committed to bridging the gap between the hearing and the hearing impaired. The result has been an environment in which over 120 young people and adults have improved their communication and presentation skills in a social, spiritual, and academic extended family through a very unique after-school program. To this day, God’s Hands of Praise has performed over 300 concerts nationwide, in Bermuda and in Europe, combining ASL with pre-recorded traditional and contemporary gospel music.
In December, 2004, God’s Hands of Praise commemorated a decade of ministry with their performance, “Praise Is What I Do”; then followed in 2005 with a combined musical / original play, “Lord Be Pleased With My Praise” -- both available on DVD. They were also greatly honored to be one of only a few choirs selected to share in the memory of Mrs. Rosa Parks, who frequently impressed upon them spiritual fortitude and the certainty of God’s grace and mercy. They received the prestigious “Spirit of Detroit” award, have performed in Detroit’s Orchestra Hall, Masonic Temple and Southfield’s Millennium Centre. This high-praise ministry continues “remembering their past, not forgetting the present and pressing into the future”. Their 2006 annual concert entitled, “Praise at Sunset” celebrated 12 years of Gratefulness, and is paving new roads for spreading their unique style of gospel music ministry to those who might not otherwise receive it. Now 15 Marevelous years of sign and praise.
